Gloucester Township Police & Municipal Court Study
CPS conducted a space needs assessment for Gloucester Township’s police department and municipal court, developing current and projected requirements and a space plan incorporating an emergency operations center.
The engagement
What we did
Gloucester Township, New Jersey, a community of diverse neighborhoods and established industry, lies eight miles from Philadelphia and fifty miles from Atlantic City. The township engaged the Center for Public Safety to conduct a space needs assessment for its police department and municipal court, housed in a nearly fifty-year-old facility adjoining the administration building, which no longer met the needs of either service. The township also sought to incorporate an emergency operations center within a new facility. CPS gathered information on current space usage and requirements through interviews with staff, surveys, and direct observation of the existing facilities. With current needs established, the team developed projections for future space requirements based on the organization’s growth plans, changes in technology, and anticipated new programs and services. CPS then developed a space plan meeting both current and future needs, including recommendations for the size, layout, and features of a new or renovated facility, and accounting for the township’s specific priorities including sustainability. The objective was a plan enabling the township to deliver the best possible public safety services to its residents.
