Trenton City Hall & Public Safety Study

CPS conducted a space needs study for Trenton covering city hall, city departments, police, and fire, aimed at future consolidation of these services into a single facility in a rapidly growing county seat.

The engagement

What we did

The City of Trenton is located in Gilchrist County, Florida, a rural area north of Tampa and northwest of the Orlando metropolitan area, where the city’s population grew by more than 20 percent in four years and continues to climb. Trenton also serves as the county seat, and its main fire station was located downtown, co-located with the police department. The Center for Public Safety was retained to undertake a space needs study examining city hall and city departments, the police department, and the fire department, with the goal of future consolidation of these services within a single facility. The study accounted for the demands of a rapidly growing jurisdiction and for the operating environment of a state where hurricane exposure is a central planning consideration, as Florida receives a large share of the hurricanes that make landfall in the United States. The resulting program gives Trenton the technical foundation to plan a consolidated municipal and public safety facility sized for continued growth.
