Miami Shores Police Facility Study

CPS determined current and future police space needs for the Village of Miami Shores and evaluated an adjacent property for renovation, removal, or combination into a single site for a new police facility.

The engagement

What we did

The Village of Miami Shores is landlocked, with open space at a premium and the police department located in an older two-story facility originally built as retail and office space. The Center for Public Safety was retained to undertake a space needs study determining the department’s current and future space requirements. Adjacent to the police department stood a two-story facility owned by Catholic Charities, which the charity intended to vacate in order to consolidate its services at another location. Recognizing the opportunity this created in a community with very limited developable land, CPS extended the study to examine that adjacent facility for renovation or removal, and to evaluate the possibility of constructing a new police facility on the two sites combined. The engagement gave the Village a clear picture of both its program requirements and the realistic development options available within its constrained footprint.
